Changed my mind about those cheap utility knives after one broke on me yesterday

Was cutting through some thick cardboard in the storage unit at work. Blade snapped right off. Hit my knuckle. Nothing serious but made me bleed all over some tenant's boxes. Been buying those bulk packs from Harbor Freight for like 3 bucks. Not anymore. Anyone else have a cheap tool fail in a way that actually hurt?

Honestly, I used to think those cheap knives were fine for quick jobs, but that blood on the boxes story really hit home for me. Ngl, I had a similar thing happen with a cheap screwdriver that just slipped and gouged my palm pretty bad. Tbh, it made me rethink buying the absolute cheapest stuff when it comes to anything sharp or with a lot of force behind it. That kind of fail is a hard way to learn a lesson.

Okay I used to be one of those people who thought cheap tools were fine, like you just gotta be careful and it's the same thing really. But honestly after reading your screwdriver story plus that knife thing, it really made me stop and think. I used to grab the cheapest phillips head at the dollar store and figure it was good enough, you know? But now I see that saving a few bucks isn't worth the risk of your hand getting messed up and needing stitches or something. The way that stuff can just slip or break without warning is scary, it's not like you can plan for it. I'm definitely going to start paying a little more attention to what I buy for anything that can cut or stab.

Cheap tools are scary because you never know when they'll let go. That screwdriver story sounds rough, palm wounds bleed like crazy. I always tell people to at least get the mid-tier stuff for anything that can bite back.
