Fixed a wobbly table with a cabinet scraper instead of sandpaper
Was trying to level a dining table that rocked on its legs for months. Used a sharp cabinet scraper to shave just the high spots off the feet instead of grinding down the whole surface with sandpaper. Took 10 minutes and the finish stayed intact. Anyone else use scrapers for fine adjustments like this?

Hold up, cabinet scrapers actually burnish the wood instead of cutting it? I thought they just scraped stuff off like a razor blade. Does that mean it's basically polishing the feet while leveling them?

Always heard from old timers that a sharp scraper beats sandpaper for stuff like this. Read a woodworking forum once where a guy swore by them for leveling chair legs without messing up the finish. Sounds like you proved it works, bet it left a cleaner edge too. Might have to grab one for my own wobbly furniture projects.

Yeah I actually read this thing online a while back about how cabinet makers in the old days used scrapers for everything because sandpaper leaves those tiny scratches that catch light weird. They said a well sharpened scraper basically burnishes the wood instead of cutting it so the finish stays smooth. Makes sense for chair legs too because you hit the wobble without wrecking the varnish around it. Did you end up picking one up yet or are you still thinking about it?
