I used to skip glue on my miter joints till Ray called me out at the Toledo shop
I always figured a tight miter plus brads was plenty, and I kept telling myself glue just made a mess. Then a guy named Ray watched me hang a piece of casing in his house down on Bancroft and asked why I was leaving 40 percent of the strength on the floor. He said wood glue on a miter is nearly as strong as the wood itself once it sets, and I had been skipping it out of plain habit. Now I glue every miter and my joints hold up way better a season later. Any of you had a guy call out a shortcut you didn't even know you were taking?
