Just compared my first dovetail saw to the one I use now
Back when I started, I had to pick between a cheap hardware store backsaw for about $25 or saving up for a proper Japanese pull saw. I went with the cheap one, thinking a saw was a saw. Man, was that a mistake. It was heavy, the teeth were never set right, and it wandered on every cut. I struggled through a whole jewelry box project, constantly fighting the tool. A couple months later, I finally spent the $80 on the pull saw. The difference was night and day. It was lighter, cut straighter with less effort, and felt like an extension of my arm. I still have that old saw in a drawer as a reminder. Anyone have a good method for sharpening the pull saw blades, or is it just easier to replace them?

Lol it's just a saw though? My grandpa built a whole shed with a rusty handsaw from the 70s. Sounds like you just needed more practice with the cheap one first.

Right? A good tool makes all the difference, doesn't it?

My dad's old saw nearly took my thumb off once (true story).
