Old foreman's chalk line trick, 20 minutes saved daily

My foreman back in Ohio swore by snapping chalk lines with a 50 foot tape held loose, not tight. I thought he was just lazy, but after 3 weeks of fighting sagging lines on wall layouts, I tried it his way. The trick is to lift the tape an inch off the surface so the chalk snaps cleaner, no double lines on the plywood. Anyone else got a habit they mocked until they saw the math work out?

Try it with string chalk next time, cheap and way less fiddle than a tape.
