Rant: The retired framer who laughed at my nail gun on a deck job in Tulsa
He watched me sink 200 nails in an afternoon, then said 'kid, that gun is why you'll be replacing this deck in 7 years,' and he was right about the winders, so now I'm wondering if anyone else ever switched back to hand nailing after a stubborn old guy called them out?

Nah, I gotta push back on this one. I've hand nailed plenty of decks and honestly, the winders fail because of bad stringer math, not the gun. My dad was the same way, swore by his hammer and told me my passlode would rot out the boards, but he also built a staircase with three different rise heights and called it "character." Fast and consistent beats slow and tired every time, especially in Tulsa humidity where your arm gives out by 3pm. You might have a bad batch of lumber or wrong nails, not a tool problem. Respect the old guy for the stairs, but don't hand him the whole job.
