Rant: Why did nobody tell me I was loading my framing nailer wrong for 10 years?

Last Tuesday I hit my thumb with a hammer for the first time in years and while cussing I dropped my nailer, picked it up wrong, and suddenly realized the nail strip was supposed to feed from the opposite side all this time - has anyone else had a tool moment where you felt like a complete idiot after a decade of doing it backwards?

Three months I spent with a pneumatic crown stapler firing backwards because I thought the safety mechanism was just a really stupid design. Turns out I had the magazine in upside down the whole time and the thing actually worked like a dream when I fixed it. My crown molding still looks fine though so maybe ignorance is bliss.
