Spent 2 full days on a crown molding corner that should've taken 2 hours

I was finishing a living room in Arlington and kept getting a gap on an outside corner, no matter how I cut it. Turns out the ceiling was out of level by nearly half an inch across that wall, so my coping was fighting the reveal the whole time. Anybody else go down a rabbit hole on something simple only to find the house itself is the problem?

Ever checked the floor instead of the ceiling? A lot of times the subfloor settles and the whole room shifts with it, so the trim ends up chasing a lie you can't see from the ladder. I had a closet door that wouldn't close right for a year until I found the joist had dropped a quarter inch. That corner might be the straightest thing in the house now, which is kind of a win if you think about it. You just fixed the symptom, not the cause, and that's the real rabbit hole.
