Spent 4 hours on a stair stringer layout before I saw the mistake

Cut the stringers for a basement stair rebuild in Boise, dry fit them, and the treads were off by a half inch at the top. I kept adjusting the saw depth and rechecking my speed square for hours. Finally realized I was reading the rise from the wrong side of the framing square, flipped it around and it took 20 minutes to redo all three. Anyone else ever stare at a layout for that long before catching something that simple?

Man, that hurts just reading it! Half an inch at the top is brutal after four hours. I've done the same thing with a speed square, but it was the other way around, the pitch was off. The simple stuff gets you every time, especially when you're tired and just keep making the same wrong move. Good on you for flipping it and moving on, that's all you can do sometimes.
