The shop vacuum that died at a job site in Austin taught me a $50 lesson

We were finishing a custom bookshelf install in a downtown condo last month, and my old shop vac started screaming then just quit mid-sweep. Dust everywhere, client standing right there, and I had no backup. Rented one from a local hardware store for $38 for the day, but the time lost killed my schedule. Now I keep a spare filter set and a cheap backup unit in the truck, costs about $50 total. Anyone else carry a second vacuum or just risk it on bigger jobs?
