Vent: Switched from a framing nailer to hand nailing for crown molding and it's night and day

I spent the last two days redoing a crown molding job in a 1940s house outside Boston. My buddy told me to try hand nailing instead of my framing nailer and I thought he was crazy. But the nailer kept blowing out the trim on these old plaster walls. Sixteen penny nails by hand took longer but zero splits and the finish looks way cleaner. Why did no one tell me this years ago? Anyone else ditch power tools for hand tools on finish work?

Can't believe nobody warned you sooner. Framing nailers on crown molding is basically asking for trouble.
