Appreciation post: Finally learned my lesson about cheap seam tape

I tried to save a few bucks on a big job last month and bought a no-name brand of seam tape from a discount tool shop. It failed on the second day, and I had to redo the entire living room section, costing me about $200 in wasted carpet and half a day's work. What's your go-to brand for tape that actually holds up?

My buddy had that "bad roll" thing happen with some off-brand stuff too.

Honestly I've had the opposite happen. Grabbed some generic tape from a hardware store years ago for a basement project and it's still holding strong. Sometimes you just get a bad roll, brand name or not. I've also seen the expensive stuff fail if the floor isn't prepped right. Maybe it was a surface prep issue, not the tape itself.

Bad roll" or did you just get lucky with that generic batch?
