Crossed 200 yards of carpet in one shift for the first time and it got me thinking

So last Wednesday I hit 210 yards of carpet installed in a single shift on a commercial job in an office building downtown. That was a big number for me personally, my previous best was around 150. Part of me thinks it's just about getting faster with practice and better prep work like pre-measuring everything. But the other part wonders if I'm cutting corners on quality just to hit a number. I mean I checked my seams and they looked good, but I didn't do as many double checks on the pattern matching as I usually do. Have any of you guys had a moment where a big yardage day made you question if speed is worth it?

Different take here - a fast install that looks good is still a good install, pattern matching included. I'd argue worrying too much about perfection actually slows you down more than it helps the final result.

yeah @josepha32 i get what you're saying, but i found the opposite worked for me. i was rushing through a tile backsplash last summer and had to redo two rows cause the pattern got all messed up. took me way longer in the end than if i just slowed down and checked each piece. getting the first few rows right saved me from pulling my hair out later.

Wait, you had to redo two entire rows @burns.jenny? That sounds brutal. I learned that lesson the hard way too when I was doing our bathroom floor last winter. I tried to speed through the pattern and ended up with a real mess that I had to rip out. Now I always lay out the first few pieces dry just to make sure everything lines up before I put any thinset down. It takes a little extra time upfront but saves so much headache later, trust me.
