Just found a trick for stretching carpet in tight corners without a knee kicker
Had this weird closet job in Phoenix last week where my power stretcher couldn't fit. Tried using a scrap piece of 2x4 and a pry bar to get the tension right, and it actually worked better than I expected. Anyone else got a hack for when your tools don't fit the space?

Never thought a 2x4 could work like that. Changed my mind on DIY setups.

Oh man, I gotta say though, that 2x4 is probably doing more work than you think lol. It's not just the wood holding it up, it's the way the weight is distributed and how the forces are running through the joints. If your cuts aren't dead square or your fasteners aren't in the right spots, that board can twist or snap way easier than it looks in the video. I've seen people try to replicate stuff like this and end up with a creaky mess because they missed the bracing or the load path. Still, it's cool to see what a simple piece of lumber can do when you get the angles right.

I remember reading somewhere that the key with a 2x4 in tight spots is the grain direction (you want vertical grain facing the force), and that if you pre-drill your pry bar holes it stops the wood from splitting under pressure. Patricia's right about it being simpler than it looks though, once you understand the leverage angles it's basically a free tool you already have laying around. The closet I tried this in had a weird offset wall and the 2x4 wedge trick saved me from having to cut a whole new piece of carpet.
