Liquor store guy set me straight on seam tape
I always used the cheap 2 inch seam tape from Home Depot cause I figured tape is tape. This old installer at a supply house in Austin grabbed my roll and said 'you're making more work for yourself with that garbage'. He handed me a roll of Roberts 50-805 and told me to try it. My seams actually lay flat now and I don't have to fight with lifting edges. Anybody else think they were saving money on tape but really just wasting time?

@ray_miller84 nailed it... cheap tape is just false economy.

Funny you say that, @adamk95, but I've been using cheap tape for years and never had edges lift. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe it's about how you prep the floor. Good cleaning and pressure make a bigger difference than the tape brand. I figure the pros get paid to use the expensive stuff, so they push it. For a home job or small room, the cheap stuff works fine if you know what you're doing. Not everyone needs to drop cash on Roberts when the job gets done anyway.

Used to think the same thing about tape being tape. That Roberts 50-805 made me eat my words though, first time I ran it on a glue-down job and nothing lifted at the edges. Now I just buy the good stuff and move on.
