Noticing more carpet going into home offices these days
Clients keep asking for carpet in their work spaces at home. They like how it feels soft and cuts down on noise. We've been using thicker pads to help with both comfort and sound. It's a small shift but it means adjusting how we plan the room layout.

We used a 9/16-inch rebond pad under a commercial-grade loop carpet in my last home office job. That extra cushion really does kill echo, but remember to factor in the height change for any built-in shelves or cabinet toes. You don't want your desk chair catching on a threshold because the floor got two inches taller.

My old office had 5/8-inch padding under the carpet and it made a huge difference with the echo. You're totally right, @terrycraig, about watching the height change though, that can sneak up on you.

That echo killing from extra cushion is real. I tried a similar pad and it made my office so much quieter. What did you do about the raised floor near doors?
