Shoutout to that dodgey seam roller I almost threw out

I found a beat up old seam roller in a job site dumpster about 2 years back near Austin, thought it was junk but kept it for backup. Yesterday it rolled a perfect seam on a thick berber where my fancy new one kept skipping and leaving marks. Anyone else got a busted tool they can't seem to replace?

Nah I gotta disagree here. That old seam roller belonged in the dumpster for a reason. You got lucky once on a berber but that thing probably has a flat spot or a rough edge that'll mess up your next roll of cut pile or pattern. I've tested beaters before and they always betray you when you least expect it. My advice is toss it before it ruins a job you actually care about.

Respectfully, I gotta say I see it the other way. A good beater that's been broken in right can save you time on seams that a brand new one just won't. You can feel where the pressure's off and work around it, adjust your angle. I've had a beat up one for years now and it still lays carpet flat without any marks if you know how to handle it. The trick is not to use it as a crutch for every seam, you pick your battles. Throwing out a tool that still has life in it just feels wasteful, especially when it's served you well on jobs you actually did care about.
