TIL the hard way: cheap tack strips cost me a $600 callback

I bought some no-name tack strips from a discount lumber place in Cleveland for like $40 a box. Figured they were fine but within 3 months the pins started popping loose and the carpet rippled bad. Ended up spending over $600 to rip out and redo the whole job with Roberts brand strips. Any of you guys had a similar nightmare with cheap tack strips?

Learned that lesson myself. Never skimp on tack strips again.

Yeah @carter.casey I feel that. Made that mistake once on a hot roof and those cheap strips just curled right up. Ended up having to tear half the job out and redo it. Not fun.

Hang on @logan_ellis are we really acting like tack strips are that big of a deal? I mean yeah cheap ones suck but you can get decent ones for like a few bucks more. I've used the cheap kind plenty of times and never had them crumble or curl up on me. Maybe it's more about how you install them than the strip itself. Just saying, sometimes people like to blame the tools instead of the work.

You ever try pulling up cheap strips with a flat bar?... They just crumble.
