Why does nobody talk about foremen pushing for fast, messy installs?

Last job, my boss said to lay carpet over old padding to save an hour. Now the floor feels lumpy, and the customer is upset. Ever have a manager tell you to do something you know will cause problems later?

Ever been told to cut a corner so bad you knew it'd haunt you? My early work is like a museum of my dumbest time-saving ideas.

Remember that feeling when you skip a step and just know it's gonna bite you later? @logan169, I once painted a whole porch without scraping the old flaky paint first because my buddy said it would "hold for a season." Two months later it looked worse than when we started, and I still see that house on my drive to work. Makes you wonder why we listen to bad advice just to save a few hours. Now I just do it right, because fixing my own mess is way more work.

Ugh, my friend's boss did that and it still haunts him, @logan169.

Man, that padding story hits home. Got told once to skip sealing concrete under vinyl planks in a damp basement. Pushed back by asking the boss to put the "don't worry about it" order in an email for the client file. Suddenly, magically, we had time to do it right. Sometimes making them put their name on the bad idea changes their tune fast.
