I finally got my dog to sit still during a Zoom interview

I had a big call with my boss last week about a promotion, and my golden retriever decided to scratch at the door right as I was talking. I had to mute myself and yell at him to stop while trying to keep a straight face. My boss saw the whole thing and just laughed, but I was so embarrassed. Has anyone else had a pet blow a serious work moment for them?

Gonna push back a little here. In my experience, that kind of thing actually works in your favor. Your boss seeing you as a human with a real life can make you more relatable, not less. Take it with a grain of salt, but I'd say lean into it next time.

Honestly, I just started making jokes about it myself before my boss could say anything. That totally changed the vibe and made it clear I was on top of it.

What makes you so sure it works in your favor though? I had my cat walk across my keyboard during a quarterly review and my boss definitely didn't see it as charming. She gave me a whole speech about professionalism and how it looks bad to clients. Maybe your boss is just more laid back than mine.
