My cat yanked my headphones off during a job interview and I still got the offer
Three days ago I had a video interview for a remote data job and my cat Leo jumped on my desk mid-sentence. He hooked a claw in my headphone cord and ripped them right off my head while the hiring manager watched. I panicked, grabbed him, and just said "sorry, that was my cat" and kept going with my answer. She laughed and told me her dog once barked through an entire client call. Got the offer email yesterday, so I guess the cat was good luck. Anyone else have a pet derail a big call and somehow it still worked out?
Last year my dog Gus started whining at the door about 10 minutes into a final round interview for a customer support gig. I ignored him at first but then he did this loud yawn thing he does when he's about to bark, so I just picked him up and held him on my lap. The guy on the screen saw him and spent like two minutes asking what kind of dog he was and telling me about his beagle. We talked about dogs for a bit and then got back to the questions. Got the job and my now-manager still asks about Gus in our one on ones. Honestly I think it made me seem more like a real person instead of just another talking head on zoom.
