I got the offer anyway, which makes me wonder if anyone else has landed a gig right after their pet turned a quiet moment into total chaos.

Cat chaos during an interview probably hurts way more than it helps. Most hiring managers want to see how you handle pressure, not how you handle a sneezing cat, and a sudden noise like that can make you look scattered or unprepared. Plenty of people have blown interviews over way smaller stuff, like a phone buzzing or a dog barking in the background. The fact that this one worked out says more about that specific guy being laid back than about pets being some secret job hack. For every story like this, there are ten where the pet ruined the moment and the offer never came.
