PSA: Please mute yourself before you start complaining about your coworkers

I was on a client call last week and my cat jumped on my keyboard, but that's fine. What's not fine is my coworker clearly didn't mute before saying 'I hate this project' while I was presenting - at least blame your pet like the rest of us.

Exactly. If you can't say it directly you probably shouldn't be saying it at all.

Yeah the "blame your pet" thing is funny but here's something nobody talks about. Sometimes people complain out loud on mute specifically because they want someone to overhear it. Like it's a cry for help or a way to test the waters without actually confronting anyone. I've seen it happen where someone says "I hate this project" on a call and they're hoping the boss or whoever will address it later. Not saying it's right but it's a real thing that happens. Muting is important but maybe we should also ask why people feel like they can't just say that stuff directly.
