A stranger's map correction sent me 3 miles the wrong way in Portland

Last month I stopped a jogger near Laurelhurst Park to ask for directions to a coffee shop, and she confidently pointed me east when it was actually west. I ended up running an extra 3 miles through neighborhoods I'd never seen, but I stumbled onto a tiny bakery with the best sourdough I've had in years. Has anyone else ever been grateful for bad directions from a stranger, or am I just weird about finding hidden spots this way?

Last summer I asked a guy outside a bodega in Brooklyn for the nearest subway and he pointed me toward the G train when I needed the L. Ended up on a 40 minute detour through Bushwick, but right by the station there was this taco cart with al pastor that I still think about weekly. I always check maps now, but honestly, some of my best finds have come from trusting the wrong person. Getting lost is the only way I've ever found the weird little spots that aren't on any list. So yeah, you're not weird. You just found the good kind of wrong.
