Bought a $20 umbrella that turned into a kite
Got caught in a sudden downpour downtown yesterday and ducked into a corner store. Grabbed the cheapest umbrella they had, a bright blue one. The wind picked up as I stepped outside and it immediately flipped inside out. I was basically holding a metal and nylon sail that dragged me half a block before the frame snapped. Anyone else have a cheap purchase that spectacularly failed at its one job?

Dragged you half a block? That’s wild.

Yeah lunag30, reminds me of a dollar store poncho that just split right up the middle in the rain.

People expect too much from basic stuff. A twenty dollar umbrella is just a thin layer of plastic on some wires, not a storm shield. It did its job until the conditions changed. Strong wind breaks lots of things, not just cheap ones. Calling it a failure ignores how weather works. You got a funny story out of it, which is better than a boring umbrella that just works.
