Guy at the dog park in St. Louis showed me I was holding the leash wrong for 8 years
I have a 70 pound lab that pulls like a freight train. For years I just held the loop in my palm with the leash coming out the top. This older guy at the park goes, 'You know that's why your hand is getting twisted up.' He showed me to flip the loop so the leash comes out the bottom by my thumb. No more tangling, no more sore knuckles after a 30 minute walk. Anyone else get a simple fix like that from a random stranger?

Is your hand really getting that twisted up though? Like, I've had dogs my whole life and I just grab the leash however feels natural, never really thought about it that hard. A 30 minute walk with a sore knuckle sounds like maybe the leash material or your grip is the issue, not the actual orientation. Or maybe you're just holding on too tight? I'm not sure flipping the loop is gonna magically fix a 70 pound beast pulling your arm off.

Holding on too tight is probably the real problem, not the leash loop.
