Guy at the laundromat in Tulsa fixed my dryer with a paperclip

Last Tuesday I'm at the 24-hour laundromat off Route 66 because my apartment dryer keeps stopping after 10 minutes. I'm standing there frustrated, kicking the machine, and this older fella in a trucker cap walks over and says, 'thermal fuse, check the vent hose first.' He showed me how the lint filter was actually seated wrong, causing it to overheat. Inside of 5 minutes he had it running again, refused the $20 I tried to give him, just asked me to pay it forward. I've lived here 3 years and never talked to anyone at that place longer than a nod. It got me thinking, how many small problems get solved by strangers who just happen to know something? Has anyone else had a random fix like that that saved you a repair bill or a headache?
