Hit 10,000 steps every day for a month and it started with a random jogger
I was sitting at a bus stop about 6 months ago and this jogger dude just plopped down next to me, totally out of breath. He said 'you ever just run till you forget your problems?' and then got up and left before I could even answer. Something about it stuck with me, so I started walking more, then running a little. I just checked my fitness tracker and realized I hit 10,000 steps for 30 days straight, which is wild cause I used to barely hit 3,000. Has anyone else had a random stranger say something that actually got you to change a habit?

Hope that jogger never found what he was looking for. Some people use exercise to run away from stuff instead of dealing with it head on. I had a buddy who got super into running after a breakup and ended up with a knee injury that put him out for months, really messed up his life more than the breakup did. It's great you got more active but maybe ask yourself if you're actually fixing anything or just keeping busy so you don't have to think.

Maybe that jogger was just running from his own problems and dragging you along for the ride.

That whole "ask yourself if you're actually fixing anything" line is fair but practical advice I'd add is that consistency with movement usually leads to mental clarity over time, not just distraction. If you can pair the steps with a simple goal like tracking how you feel after each walk you'll know pretty fast if it's helping or just filling time. Just keep checking in with yourself so your body doesn't end up like your buddy's knee.
