Picked the quiet train car over the loud one and met the guy who fixed my resume
I had to choose between two seats on the 7:15 train to Chicago last Tuesday. The quiet car was nearly empty, but the next one back had three guys laughing loud about a softball game. I picked the quiet car because I had 90 minutes of work to catch up on. Twenty minutes in, the man across the aisle asked if I was stuck on a spreadsheet, because I guess my face said enough. Turns out he ran hiring for a logistics company in Gary, Indiana, and he spent 40 minutes going through my resume line by line on his laptop. I had been sending that same resume out for 5 months with zero calls back. Now I want to know if anyone else has gotten real career help from a total stranger on public transit, or am I just weirdly lucky?
