That old woman at the bus stop taught me a trick

I was waiting for the 47 bus downtown last Tuesday and this tiny lady in a floral coat just handed me a folded piece of tin foil with a homemade cookie inside. She said "you looked like you needed one" and walked off. I never even got her name but I think about that cookie every time I'm having a rough day.

Hold on, gotta disagree a little. That's a sweet story but trusting random food from strangers is a bit much for me. You don't know what was in that cookie or where those hands have been. A genuine gesture is nice but a homemade item from someone you've never met could be anything. People have all sorts of motives and not all of them are good. Don't get me wrong, kindness is real, but please be careful out there.

Wait, did you actually eat a cookie wrapped in tin foil from someone you didn't know?

I actually read a study a few months back about how small unexpected acts of kindness like this can trigger a bigger emotional boost for the giver than the receiver. It said that random gestures create a ripple effect where people are more likely to pay it forward later. So even if the cookie was a little risky, the memory itself seems worth holding onto.
