The lady at the grocery store checkout called me out on my bag habit

I was stuffing my apples into yet another plastic produce bag when she tapped my shoulder and said, 'You know those go straight to the landfill, right?' Turns out I had been doing that for 3 years without thinking about it. Anyone else have a random stranger snap them out of an auto-pilot routine?

The checkout lady was just trying to feel better about herself by calling you out in public. Those little produce bags are barely any plastic compared to all the packaging on every single thing in that store. Think about all the clamshell containers for berries, the plastic wrap on cucumbers, the bags of chips that are mostly air. By that logic we should all just stop buying anything from a grocery store that isn't grown in our backyard.

Right, those little plastic bags are the worst. I switched to reusable mesh ones.
