The skeptic's guide to airport lounge day passes, I finally caved

I always rolled my eyes at those $59 Priority Pass day passes, figured they were just overpriced waiting rooms. But last month at O'Hare with a 4 hour delay, I grabbed one on a whim. Free drinks, quiet corner, actual outlets that worked, and the staff called my gate when boarding started. Has anyone else had a random splurge like this actually pay off in a pinch?

Wait, did the lounge staff really page you by name? Because every time I've used a lounge at O'Hare, they just make a general announcement and half the room misses it. That alone would be worth $59 to me with how often I get stuck there. But also, were the "free drinks" actually free, or did they try to guilt you into tipping on what was already an expensive pass? Last time I paid for one of those things the bartender gave me a look like I owed him something extra. Kind of kills the whole "treat yourself" vibe when you're doing mental math on top of the delay.
