Two years of bus rides, then a stranger fixed my route in 20 minutes

I took the 42 bus through East Nashville every workday for two years. It always added 25 minutes to my commute because I never realized the transfer at the 5th Street station was avoidable. Last Tuesday, a retired driver saw me checking my phone and told me to hop on the 19 at the 3rd Avenue stop instead. I saved 22 minutes that same day, and now I've used that trick every day since. Has anyone else had a random stranger simplify something you'd been doing wrong for years?
