Vent: My daily subway encounter turned into a 3 PM warning

I used to just nod at the same panhandler near Union Square every morning, never really listening. Last Tuesday he grabbed my sleeve and told me to avoid the 4 train platform for the next hour, said he saw two guys scoping bags. I laughed it off, but then I heard about three phone snatchings on that exact line around 3 PM. Now I actually stop and chat with him for 30 seconds, he's tipped me off twice since. Has anyone else gotten useful warnings from people you usually ignore?
