Warning: My "quick" trip to return a library book turned into a 3 hour nightmare

I stopped by the downtown branch after work just to drop off one book, figured it would take 5 minutes. But the return slot was jammed, so I had to go inside where the line snaked past the new releases. An older guy in front of me wanted to argue about a late fee from 2019, and the only librarian working had to go find a manager. By the time I got out, my parking meter had expired and I had a $15 ticket. Has anyone else gotten trapped in a simple errand that fell apart like this?

Honestly, a late fee and a parking ticket? That's just bad luck, not a nightmare.

Honestly I used to get so frustrated with those kinds of surprise fees too lol. What worked for me was checking my bank account every morning for like 5 minutes before work. It caught a few things early and saved me a ton of headaches.

Start checking your return date the minute you borrow something. I got tired of that heart drop feeling when I saw the due date was yesterday. Now it's the first thing I look at before I even walk out of the library.
