Warning: That $30 'vintage' blender from the flea market turned my smoothie into a mess

I picked up this old blender from a flea market near Portland last Sunday for 30 bucks. Looked cool with the chrome base and all, but the seal on the jar was shot. On my second blend, berry smoothie sprayed all over my kitchen cabinets and down the front of my white shirt. Took me an hour to clean up and I'm still finding sticky spots near the counter edge. Anyone else get burned by buying old kitchen gear that looks nice but doesn't actually work?

Oh man, that sounds like a nightmare with the smoothie! One of my buddies grabbed a vintage stand mixer at a thrift store and the thing nearly walked off the counter from the vibration.

Last summer I grabbed a toaster from a garage sale for five bucks because it had that retro aqua color. First time I used it the toast popped up but the lever stayed down and started smoking. Had to unplug it with a wooden spoon while my wife yelled from the other room asking if I was trying to burn the house down (again).

Wooden spoon move was genius actually. My grandmother had an avocado green toaster that nearly killed me as a kid. Pulled a bagel out with a fork and the whole thing sparked. Learned real quick that vintage appliances have zero safety features. Sometimes the retro look comes with a side of fire hazard.
