Wasted $180 on a 'certified' phone repair shop, learned the hard way

Last month my screen cracked and I found this place online that claimed to be certified and had great reviews. Dropped $180 for a replacement and they said it would take 2 hours. When I picked it up, the touch was laggy but I figured it needed to settle. By day 3 the screen started flickering and the battery was draining like crazy. Took it to my usual guy in Austin and he popped it open, said the connector was loose and they used a cheap aftermarket panel that was never gonna hold up. Replaced it for $60 in 20 minutes, zero issues since. Anyone else get burned by a shop with fancy credentials but zero quality control? How do you vet repair places before trusting them?

Sorry you had to deal with that, it's a lousy feeling to pay good money and get worse than nothing. The fancy website and the "certified" sticker fool a lot of folks, but it sounds like your usual guy knows what he's doing and that's worth its weight in gold. At least now you know to ask around your local shops first before trusting any online claim.
