Accidentally grabbed the ghost pepper sauce instead of hot sauce on my station last Saturday

Took one bite of the chili I was testing for the special and my mouth went completely numb for like 15 minutes. Has anyone else ever mixed up an ingredient in a rush and had to scrap a whole batch?

Wait, your mouth went numb from ghost pepper? That's actually the capsaicin doing its thing, it can cause temporary nerve reactions. I think you might be confusing ghost pepper with something like a Sichuan peppercorn which actually causes numbness. Ghost pepper is more about pure heat and pain, not numbness. Your batch might have been salvageable if you added dairy or something acidic to cut it, but I get why you scrapped it. That sounds like a rough shift.

Nah ghost pepper can definitely make your mouth go numb too, it's not just Sichuan peppercorns. The intense heat overloads your nerves and it feels numb for a bit after the pain fades.
