My immersion blender gave up the ghost mid-puree for a 50-person wedding soup.

The motor just started smoking during the final push, so I had to borrow a hotel pan and a potato masher from the venue. Anyone ever have a crucial tool die right before service?

Been there with a stick blender going out right before a big batch of sauce. The hotel pan and masher trick is a total lifesaver, even if your arm feels like jelly afterwards. I keep a cheap backup hand blender in my kit now because of that exact panic. It's not fancy but it gets the job done when the main one quits.

Yeah @ellis.leo, that backup blender is smart. Honestly, the real nightmare is when the motor gives out and you get that awful burning plastic smell in your sauce. Ruined a whole batch of romesco that way once. Now I always unplug the thing and let it cool down halfway through a big job, even if it slows service a bit. Just can't risk that flavor getting into everything.

My old Vitamix died mid-pesto and I had to finish it with a fork.
