Sous chef at my last gig called the walk in "the library" and I didn't get it for 3 shifts
Finally asked him why on a slow Tuesday and he said cause that's where you go to get quiet and figure stuff out, which honestly tracks when you're 40 tickets deep and hiding behind the sheet pans. What weird names does your crew have for stuff around the kitchen?
Wait, is it really about getting quiet though? Every time I've ducked into the walk in it's cause I'm about to lose it and need 30 seconds where nobody can yell at me. Sounds more like a time out room than a library, but hey if it works for him it works.
Wait, you guys actually have walk ins? That is wild to me. I have worked in kitchens where the whole place is the size of a closet, so hiding in a walk in would just mean standing in the freezer with the onions. So when you duck in there, do you prop the door open a crack to listen, or is it full silence mode until someone comes looking for you?
