Strawberries: the worst thing to prep in a kitchen? Unpopular opinion.
I spent 3 years hulling strawberries with a paring knife like a damn fool. Took forever and left half the berry in the trash. Last month a prep cook showed me a strawberry huller tool that costs 8 bucks. Cuts the core out clean in one second. Now I'm wondering if being fast with the knife is just being dumb. Thoughts?

A tool is only worth the space it takes up in your drawer. Nine times out of ten a sharp paring knife does the job faster than finding and cleaning a specialty gadget. Maybe your prep cook just never watched how fast a good knife hand can work.

Isnt this just true of life in general though? We all reach for a specialized app or tool when most of the time the simplest way works fine.

Yeah but not really though. A paring knife is great but it's not gonna whip up a meringue or zest a lemon without making you want to throw it out the window.
