My buddy says a car you can drive daily beats a garage queen, and I'm not so sure
Last month my buddy Dale sold his numbers matching 1966 Chevelle and bought a rougher driver quality 1970 Nova he takes everywhere, including a 400 mile round trip to a show in Amarillo. He keeps saying a classic car that sits in the garage is a waste of good metal and that the guy who drives his car to the diner every Saturday loves it more than the guy polishing a trailer queen. I get his point but something about a beat up survivor with stone chips on the nose just feels wrong to me, and I could not put my finger on why until I helped him change a fan belt in a gas station parking lot at 10pm. Here is where I land: the survivor guy has a story every time he opens the hood, while my garaged 1955 Bel Air just has a clean engine bay and nobody to talk to at the show. Dale said it best, quote, a car that never leaves the driveway is furniture. So do you park yours and keep it safe or run it hard and take the wear, and which one do you think is the honest way to own one of these?
