Pro tip: my uncle said buy the rustiest car on the lot, and he was right
My uncle Ray ran a body shop off Route 9 in Poughkeepsie for 30 years and he kept saying a solid rust-free shell is worth more than a perfect engine. So I bought a '69 Nova with holes in both quarters for $2,800 and passed on a cleaner one with a knocking 350. Two years and one engine swap later, the Nova is still solid and that other car is probably a parts pile. Any of you buy a car for the shell instead of the drivetrain, and did it pay off?
