The '57 Chevy at the Piggly Wiggly in Foley, Alabama got more love than the owners
Went down to the Gulf Coast last weekend and saw this cherry '57 Bel Air parked outside the grocery store. The car was spotless, had to be a $40k resto, but nobody even walked near it because the owner posted a sign saying 'do not touch, sitting on 10k in paint.' I get protecting your ride but cmon, it's a classic. You park at a Piggly Wiggly, you kind of invite the conversations. Has anyone else see cars get treated like museum pieces instead of drivers?
My own ride is a 2003 Corolla with a dent in the door from a shopping cart, so maybe I shouldn't talk about fancy paint jobs. That said, the sign is what kills me. Ten grand in paint and you park it at the Piggly Wiggly? What did the guy expect, a red carpet and a velvet rope? Half the fun of owning a classic is the old timers walking up to tell you about the one they had in high school. If you don't want that, park in the back of the lot or leave it home. A car that nice sitting there with a grumpy sign is like a guy bringing a guitar to a party and then telling everyone not to ask him to play.
