I know a lot of guys in this hobby swear you should never touch original paint, but last Saturday I finally hit my truck's faded green with a clay bar and some cheap polish and the difference after about 5 hours was huge. The hood had 40 years of oxidation and tree sap, and now you can see the actual color again, plus the little scratches and dings still show so it doesn't look restored, just cared for. I'm not saying go spray a base coat on a survivor car, but the idea that a worn finish has to stay dull forever never made sense to me. Has anyone else buffed out original paint and regretted it, or am I right that a little shine doesn't hurt the value?
