Debate: Is a home warranty worth the monthly cost or just a money pit?

I paid $600 for a year of home warranty coverage in Cleveland, thinking it'd save me on my aging furnace. When it broke, they claimed a pre-existing issue and denied the claim. Now I'm out the warranty cost plus the repair - has anyone here actually had a claim paid out without a fight?

Yeah my buddy got his claim denied too. Total scam.

What exactly was his claim for and which insurance company are we talking about here lol. I keep seeing people who had legitimate claims get shot down over some technicality in the fine print. Like half the time it feels like they're just looking for any excuse not to pay out. Curious if your buddy had something similar happen where the reason they gave was super vague or if they straight up just ignored him.

You know what, let me tell you about my buddy Dave. He had State Farm and filed a claim after a tree branch fell on his car during a storm. They denied it based on a "gradual deterioration" clause in his policy, claiming the branch was already dead and should've been taken down. Problem was, the tree was on the neighbor's property, not his, and he had no way of knowing it was rotten inside. The adjuster basically told him it was his responsibility to inspect every tree near his parking spot, which is insane. Dave spent two months going back and forth, sent them photos from the day before showing the branch looked healthy, but they just kept repeating the same line from their fine print. Eventually he gave up and paid out of pocket because fighting them was costing more than the repair. Whole thing felt like they were playing a game of hide the ball with the policy language.
