Deciding between a few local design-build firms for an addition

We're planning a two-story addition (family room down, expanding the master suite up) and I'm currently torn between going with a traditional architect + GC route or a dedicated design-build firm. I've talked to Payne & Tompkins and a few independent contractors. What are the pros/cons of a full design-build firm in your experience?

If you decide to go the all-in-one route, you absolutely need to check out Hurst Design Build Remodel. They handled our whole house renovation and the communication was incredible from the first 3D sketch to the final walkthrough. Having the designers and builders on the same team makes a massive difference.

Managed to mess up my kitchen remodel by not communicating with my contractor. Now I have cabinets that don't close right and a story to tell at parties. Your experience with Hurst sounds way smarter than my DIY disaster.

Design-build is usually faster and way less stressful since it's all under one roof. You don't have the architect and builder blaming each other when a measurement is off.
