Figured out my furnace filter was backwards for 6 months
I swapped it during a DIY fix last winter and my electric bill dropped by $45 this month. Has anyone else had a service tech point out an obvious mistake like that?

That much of a drop from just flipping the filter? Sounds like you had bigger problems than just the direction of the arrows.

Yeah, I read somewhere that a dirty filter can make your system run way harder than it should.

Dirty filter can make your system run way harder" is right. But backwards for 6 months? That's not just hard work. That's the filter actively fighting the air. Like wearing a shirt backwards but also inside out and wet. My neighbor had his AC coil freeze solid because the filter was installed wrong. Cost him $400 in service fees. Plus the electric bill from basically trying to suck air through a brick.
