Finally got the old porch light working after three years
When we bought our house in Ohio City back in 2021, the front porch light never worked. Last month I finally pulled the fixture down and found the old cloth wiring was just disconnected inside the box. I rewired it with some new stuff from the hardware store on Lorain, and now it lights up the whole front step. Anyone have a good recommendation for a bulb that handles our winter weather?

Three years with no porch light is wild.

Oh nice, that's a solid fix. I saw something about LED bulbs being better for the cold because they light up faster. Maybe check the package for a temperature rating.

Totally! I had the same problem with my garage light. The old bulb would just flicker and give up when it got really cold. I swapped it for an LED bulb from the hardware store and it was like night and day. That thing turns on bright and instant now, even in a snowstorm. I didn't even check the box, I just got lucky.
