Furnace filter subscription got me with auto ship

Signed up for the $9 monthly filter delivery thing last fall and totally forgot it rolls over. By March I had a closet full of filters and the AC guy said my system was choking on dust because I never changed it once. Cost me $120 for the service call to fix what the filters were supposed to prevent. Now I just buy a 3 pack at Home Depot and set a phone alarm every 90 days. Anyone else get burned by these "convenience" subscriptions?
